Managing projects effectively requires skill, coordination, and the right tools.
However, the key to achieving successful projects lies on the ability to assemble the right team and build strong partnerships.
Curated project management case studies below.
Vozes da Avó — The Grandmother experience
“Vozes da Avó” is an artistic installation made of memories and textile waste that pays tribute to the grandmothers of Portugal. The artist Melanie Alves, through photographs, interviews, and videos, builds her work which results in an installation 8 meters high in the central square of The Hood (UBBO - Amadora).
In addition to the centerpiece, this project featured activities on the opening day including a show cooking with grandmother's recipes and the winner of Mesa dos Portugueses, a photobooth, roundtable discussion with the artist and guests - Burel Factory, Cutla, Edições do Gosto, The Hood - as well as classes and concerts from Cutla senior university.
As a project manager, I was involved in project scheduling, concept and production phases, visits to textile factories, logistical and production support, communication with partners, and coordination and production on the event day.
“Nowadays, being rebellious also means taking time to listen to those who have rocked us to sleep”, defends Melanie Alves, author of this project and the ‘lap as activism’ movement.
The project received significant media attention with interviews in magazines, radio, and television: TSF, Rádio renascença, RTP África, SIC - Casa Feliz, We Electric, Lider magazine, Ambiente magazine). This project will continue in a different itinerant format throughout the country with support from various institutions.
Noites Maravilha
Noites Maravilha is a non-profit event that brings culture to Azóia (Sesimbra) and celebrates its roots and traditions. It aims to bring history, photography, outdoor cinema, music, and gastronomy to a community with limited access to these cultural assets, while also valuing the natural heritage of the region and paying tribute to its inhabitants.
I was invited by Felicidad agency to join the team as a project manager and local agent.
Given the specificity of the location, the challenge was to engage partners who are important and recognized within the community in various cultural and gastronomic areas that we aimed to represent. Another major goal was to involve local residents and tourists (the event took place in August).
The first goal was achieved through a deep understanding of the area and partnerships with local institutions, while the second was accomplished by including neighbors in the photography exhibition and offering an excellent free program.
The event featured two nights of outdoor cinema, cocktails with regional snacks, a photography exhibition showcasing local people, a concert, and guided tours of Outeiro Windmill - all with sold-out attendance. The first edition concluded successfully, paving the way for planning a second edition in 2024.
